Trade can be a way to make money. Find an area, and visit the cities in said area. Then, go to one of them and hover over the various trade goods to see what can be bought or sold cheaply in some of the towns you've been visiting. Look to buy goods that can be sold for around double or more in other cities.

I'm about a year in and I'm just constantly running out of money. I have a castle, a workshop, a winery, 2 caravans and I'm still losing 1500-2000 a turn.
Question. I have two caravans in operation, yet one of them had its income slowly decrease and then vanish off of the income tooltip (not even in deficit, just not appearing). The caravan leader is still in my clan, and the caravan is stil fully manned and travelling around the map.
The medicine perk at level 275 adds 0.5HP / (lvl - 200) to every unit in the party, and it does not work for surgeons - only party leaders. Don't bother putting points in Trade. It is annoying to level and money isn't an issue mid-game. More on this later. Companion perks: The companion limit is around 10, not including family, so plan accordingly.
Look around the city you want the workshop in, see what its village produced goods are, that should help you make a profit. from what i see in my own game, pravend has a huge abundance of grain in the trade menu but very little beer, so maybe a brewery would get you more profit. no guarantees though. Make better wine.
